From an early age, Gavin has been involved in theatre in one way or another - but it was studying piano under Nova Teasdale that he developed a love for the musical side of theatre. After standing in as the rehearsal pianist for a number of local amateur societies, he found his true love and passion.
Gavin went on to the University of Chichester where he trained as a pianist, organist, singer and conductor. During his time studying he played for a number of local societies both as rehearsal pianist and in the pit. He also studied for a degree in Theology at The University of Oxford, where he was director of Chapel Music at his college. Through this, he worked with musicians who are now world class in their field.
Following his studies, he taught music, performing arts, and vocal production for Peterborough Regional College and Anglia Ruskin University as well as undertaking a number of theatre engagements as either rehearsal pianist or in the pit.
His theatre credits as MD include The Wizard of Oz, Calamity Jane, Godspell, Patience, Iolanthe, and Return to the Forbidden Planet and as a keyboard player/repetiteur: Blood Brothers, Oliver, West Side Story, The Witches of Eastwick, The Sound of Music, Legally Blonde, and Carousel.
in 2014 Gavin was invited to become the resident accompanist to Cranwell Military Wives' Choir which saw him playing for concerts up and down the country.
From 2014 to 2019 he was resident Musical Director for Tu Danse Studios before becoming a Musical Director for Kindred Drama Consultancy, combining both teaching and MD work.
Gavin was resident pianist and Musical Director for Darren Pritchard's Rent Party in collaboration with Jumped Up Theatre at Battersea Arts Centre in November 2021.
Most recently, he was Musical Director and played keys for the Key Theatre's pantomime Cinderella.
Always looking for new and exciting work, Gavin brings a fresh vision and detailed eye to his work.
